United Kingdom

Amazon DSP software for UK operators.Built for the British programme, not translated into it.

Most software for Amazon Delivery Service Partners is built for the American programme, where DBS checks, DVLA licence verification and Right to Work do not exist. For a British operator those are not optional extras — they are the floor you stand on, and the consequences of getting them wrong land on you rather than on Amazon.

What changes when you run a DSP in the UK

The daily operation looks the same everywhere: routes to cover, drivers to brief, vans to keep on the road, a scorecard watching. What changes is the paperwork behind every driver — and a driver whose licence check has lapsed, or whose right to work evidence nobody can find, is a driver you cannot legally put on a route tomorrow morning. That is not a compliance problem in the abstract; it is a route uncovered on a day you needed it.

What follows is what WaveGo helps you keep in order, with the official source for each. It describes what the software tracks. It is not legal advice, and the rules change — the links are the authority, not this page.

DBS checks, and which one you can actually request

There are four levels: basic, standard, enhanced, and enhanced with barred lists. A basic check shows unspent convictions and conditional cautions. Standard and enhanced go further, but they are only available where the role itself is eligible — you cannot simply choose the deepest check because it feels safer.

A basic check costs £21.50 and takes up to three days, and anyone aged 16 or over working in England and Wales can apply for their own.

WaveGo's part is unglamorous and it is the part that fails in practice: the certificate and its date live against the driver, not in a folder, so the answer to "when was this one done?" takes a second rather than an afternoon.

DVLA licence checks need the driver's cooperation

To check a driving licence record you need the last eight characters of the licence number and a check code from the driver. The code is valid for 21 days and works once. The service shows what they are entitled to drive, along with penalty points and disqualifications.

The detail that catches operators out is that you cannot do this behind the driver's back: obtaining someone else's personal information without their permission is a criminal offence. So the check has to be part of a flow the driver takes part in — which is exactly what driver onboarding is for, and why single-use codes with a 21-day window need chasing before they expire rather than after.

Right to Work is the one with a price on it

The civil penalty for employing someone without the right to work is up to £45,000 per worker for a first breach and up to £60,000 for a repeat breach. Per worker. It falls on the employer, which in this arrangement is the DSP.

The protection is procedural: a check carried out as the Home Office prescribes gives you a statutory excuse against that penalty. Which means the evidence of having done it properly is worth as much as the check itself.

One practical trap. British and Irish citizens cannot get an online share code, so the online service does not cover everyone you hire. An onboarding flow built around a single path breaks on the first British driver who walks in.

Payroll that reaches HMRC on time

HMRC expects a Full Payment Submission on or before your employees' payday, with an Employer Payment Summary in a month where nobody was paid. The deadline is not the end of the month; it is the day people get paid.

That timing is the whole reason hours should not be retyped from a rota the night before. WaveGo feeds hours and schedule data into payroll through Sage, Xero and HMRC-ready output, so the numbers exist before the date rather than being assembled against it.

Vans: MOT dates and the daily check

A vehicle needs its first MOT by the third anniversary of its registration, then one every year. With six vans that is six dates; with twenty it is a calendar nobody holds in their head.

Daily walkaround checks sit alongside them, and they are only worth doing if the defect reaches someone. In WaveGo the driver completes the check on their phone and the defect attaches to the van, not to a message thread that scrolls away. Amazon DSP fleet management software covers the cost side, and driver scheduling is where a van off the road becomes a route to re-cover.

Questions from UK operators

Do delivery drivers need a DBS check?
There is no single answer, and anyone who gives you one without asking what the role involves is guessing. A basic DBS check is available to anyone aged 16 or over working in England and Wales; standard and enhanced checks are only available where the role itself is eligible. WaveGo keeps the certificate and its date against the driver, so you can answer the question for your own operation.
What do I need from a driver to check their licence?
The last eight characters of their driving licence number and a check code that they generate. The code lasts 21 days and works once. You cannot look up someone's licence without their cooperation — obtaining another person's information without permission is a criminal offence.
Does a Right to Work check really protect me?
A check carried out the way the Home Office prescribes gives you a statutory excuse against the civil penalty. That is the whole point of doing it properly and keeping the evidence: the penalty lands on the employer, not on Amazon.
Can I check Right to Work online for every driver?
No. The online share code service does not cover British and Irish citizens — they prove it a different way. An onboarding flow built on one path fails on the first British driver you hire.
Does WaveGo run the checks for me?
It collects what the checks need during onboarding and keeps the record against the driver, with the dates. The checks themselves are carried out through the official services.
How does this connect to payroll?
Hours and schedule data feed payroll rather than being retyped, through Sage, Xero and HMRC-ready output. HMRC expects a Full Payment Submission on or before payday, so the useful thing is having the hours ready before that date, not after.
Is WaveGo only for Amazon DSPs?
It is built for them, and most of it applies to any UK last-mile operation running vans on a schedule. The scorecard side is Amazon-specific; the rest is not.
What does it cost to try?
Five seats are free, permanently, then £10 per seat. A seat is any active user, whatever the role. No card and no contract.

For the operation itself, see Amazon DSP management software, or what it costs on pricing.
